SOME OF MY FRONT COVERS

I SUPPOSE MY ONLY CLAIM TO FAME WAS IN
1983 WHEN I WON THE
BBC WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR
AWARD IN THE PLANT SECTION.

THIS WAS WITH A PICTURE OF Sparganium erectum,
OR BURR REED, GIVING OFF POLLEN.

THE ROYAL SHOW
(This is the name dropping bit !)

All done very scientifically with the aid of an elastic
band 'twanged' at just the right time !

I was in at the start, when it was decided to create a wildlife habitat demonstration area at the Royal Show Ground at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, many years ago.
We created ponds, woodland, hedgerows, ditches, scrubland, and a wild flower meadow. I also set up a travelling freshwater exhibit which was on display in the conservation centre. I spent a very happy ten years setting up the display and being present during the four days of the show each July.
I also took the freshwater display around the country to all the main agricultural shows. During those years I met some interesting people, as you can see below.

LAMBETH PALACE

I also had the pleasure of meeting the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Robert Runcie, whilst working at the Royal Show. He said his wife would like a wildlife garden in the grounds of Lambeth Palace. I agreed, and of course my bosses thought this a great PR opportunity for English Nature

I spent a very happy two weeks there, staying in the Runcies flat in the Palace. It just so happened that my stay co - incided with a state visit by the Patriarch of Constantinople. It was an interesting time to say the least !
